To get to Ikaria, you have two main options: by plane or by ferry.
- By Plane:
Ikaria has an airport (Ikaria Airport) that serves flights from Athens and other major cities in Greece, such as Thessaloniki. The flight from Athens takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. During the summer, there are also charter flights from various European cities. A helpful tip is that the earlier you book your tickets, the better the price you’ll find. For example, we flew from Thessaloniki with Olympic Airlines, with a round-trip cost of 180 euros, which we booked 5 months in advance. If we had waited longer, the airfare would have been much more expensive. - By Ferry:
Ikaria is also connected by ferry to the port of Piraeus and other island destinations, such as Samos and Chios. Ferries from Piraeus to Ikaria take approximately 8-10 hours, depending on the type of ferry and weather conditions. During the summer, there are also ferries from Rafina and Syros. Ferries to Ikaria offer comfort and an amazing view of the Aegean Sea, making the journey a beautiful experience.

We recommend renting a car upon your arrival in Ikaria, as this will allow you to explore various parts of the island and its beautiful beaches comfortably. Public transportation is not very frequent or flexible, and having a car gives you the freedom to discover the hidden gems of Ikaria, which are not always easily accessible by public transport. This way, you can enjoy the freedom to explore and discover the island’s beauty at your own pace.

It is worth noting that we chose to stay in the Armenistis area, at Armenistis View Studios, for 80 euros per night for a double room. The room had an organized kitchen and a stunning sea view, offering a comfortable and relaxing stay with all the amenities we needed for our holidays in Ikaria.
