How to Get to Skopelos

Access to Skopelos is only possible by ferry, with Volos being the main departure port. Most routes to the island start from Volos, offering both conventional ferries and high-speed vessels, allowing travelers to choose based on their preferred travel duration.

Additionally, there are ferry connections from the nearby islands of Skiathos and Alonissos. During the summer season, additional routes are available from Thessaloniki, which is where we began our journey.

Skopelos has a well-organized transportation network that connects almost every corner of the island. Local buses run frequent routes from Skopelos Town to the most popular beaches, such as Panormos, Milia, and Kastani, as well as to the picturesque villages inland. Additionally, taxis and rental options for cars and scooters are available for those seeking more flexibility. The efficient public transportation system makes it easy to explore the island without needing your own vehicle.

We chose to save money by not renting a car, as the reliable bus service allowed us to explore the entire island comfortably and stress-free. The frequent bus routes made it possible to visit both the famous beaches and the more remote villages, enjoying the journey without the hassle of driving.

During our day cruise, we visited the beautiful Alonissos and along the way, we had the opportunity to swim in some unique, crystal-clear beaches. On our journey, we spotted dolphins and even saw a famous seal of the area, a friendly and well-known inhabitant of the waters around the Sporades.
  • Traditional Villages: Visit the island’s charming inland villages like Glossa and Palio Klima, where you can experience authentic island life and taste local delicacies.
